PUT ON THE NEW
and be renewed in the spirit of your mind, and that you put on the new man which was created according to God, in true righteousness and holiness. Ephesians 4:23-24 NKJV
The old man and the new man refer to the person you were before you got born again (i.e the offspring of sin) and the person you are now that you are born again (i.e the offspring of righteousness). Many haven't realised that they aren't the same person they were before they got born again, but it's true.
Now these two persons have very different characters, lifestyles, and attitudes. And so to put off one, and put on the other, talks about taking off the character of one, and replacing it with the character of the other.
The scripture tells us to .."put off, concerning your former conduct, the old man which grows corrupt according to the deceitful lusts", (Ephesians 4:22 NKJV), and to ..." put on the new man which was created according to God, in true righteousness and holiness." (Ephesians 4:24 NKJV).
Then He shows us how to do the putting on and off. He says and be renewed in the spirit of your mind, (Ephesians 4:23 NKJV). So it's through the renewal of our minds that we put on or put off the character of the new and old man respectively. The active agent for mind renewal is the word of God. And so to learn about the new life in Christ, we've got to give our minds to the word.
Affirmation: I choose to put off the old man whose lifestyle I had while I was in sin, and put on the new man, whose lifestyle I have now in righteousness. I choose to stick to the word, and be renewed in my mind by the word and grace of God. In Jesus name. Amen.
