IN THE LORD
Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right.
Ephesians 6:1 NKJV
See the instruction given to children concerning their parents. That they should obey their parents. But God also specified within what context their obedience must be. He said it should be "in the Lord." This means; dear children, as long as your obedience to your parents will not take you away from the Lord, then obey them.
But if their instructions or desires are such that take you away from the Lord, then you must choose Christ as priority. The same is seen in God's instructions concerning government authorities.
Let every soul be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and the authorities that exist are appointed by God. (Romans 13:1 NKJV). The day government authorities ordered the apostles to stop preaching in the name of Jesus, what was their response? "But Peter and the other apostles answered and said: “We ought to obey God rather than men." (Acts 5:29 NKJV)
You can clearly see the mind of God. That God wants us to be obedient and law abiding, but never at the expense of our obedience to Him. Therefore our obedience to Christ is first and priority before our obedience to anyone else.
Affirmation: I choose to submit to the Lordship of Jesus Christ, recognising Him as my master and Lord of my life. His opinion, His will, His desire and word rule my life, to the glory of God the Father in Jesus name. Amen
