Throwback to many years ago in his teenage years, when Gospel Artiste, Nathaniel Bassey was invited as a Guest Artiste at The New Testament Assembly Church, Alagomeji, Yaba, Lagos.
When Nathaniel picked up the trumpet, many people laughed at him and told him it was not going to do him any good because it was not trendy. He was advised to become a comedian because he could make people laugh.
It was only about music for Nathaniel until he encountered God. Before he started playing at churches, he played his trumpet at clubs and parties. He started his music ministry in 1993. He grew up listening to lots of instrumentals, highlife and Jazz. After he got born again, it stopped being about the music, and it became all about knowing God, with the music as an instrument and a platform to show forth God’s love. He said, "I remember being offered a contract to take Jesus out of a song in 2008, It was to be a foreign deal. But He gave me strength to turn it down, saying I will rather go hungry than take Jesus out. He is my Life and by His Grace, I made a vow to serve no other, blow for none other, no matter the amount of money involved until that final day in Jesus’ name."
Today, Nathaniel Bassey is one of the prominent Gospel Artistes breaking grounds for Christ. His trumpet playing coupled with a calm singing style has since ushered many in concerts, crusades and Churches into the presence of the LORD.
