Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. Ephesians 6:11

In the physical world, soldiers gear up with weapons and armory to engage in a physical combat, fighting themselves for the victor to emerge. So the scripture tells us, to put on the whole armor of God, that we might be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.

The interesting thing is that the word ‘wiles’ does not refer to powers or strength or some sort of weaponry. They simply refer to devious or cunning stratagems and plots of trickery, employed in manipulating or persuading someone to do what one wants. It’s all about his trickery and deception.

If the devil was half as strong as we were, he wouldn’t be trying to deceive or trick us into being manipulated. But because he’s got no power over us, his best shot is deception. So all the armory we put on in the Spirit are not to help us to be stronger or to defeat the devil at all, but are to help us in believing the truth, and keep us from being deceived.

Deception is simply trying to get someone to believe a lie, so as to manipulate them. So we must remain in the truth and focused on the truth. We aren’t trying to win, but we must be geared up in the Spirit, to keep us from being deceived. You’re blessed. TCF.
