DAILY DEVOTIONAL: PRAY FOR THE GOVERNMENT

PRAY FOR THE GOVERNMENT

1 Timothy 2:1-2

Therefore I exhort first of all that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks be made for all men, for kings and all who are in authority, that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and reverence.

The place of intercession is one area majority of members of the church of Christ need to work on. By default, due to our call in Christ, it's important to understand that each and every one of us are called as intercessors. Not just for our families or for our friends, but for the world.

We are to pray for even those we do not know at all, because that's where true and unselfish love is expressed. We are instructed from our theme verse to make prayers for all men, especially Kings and leaders. We are also told what the result of praying for the government would be. A quiet and peaceful life in all godlines and reverence (dignity).

Many times, the reason we have problems and troubles in the society is because as a church, and as members of the church, we've not fulfilled our duty in praying for the government. Sadly, many people are so busy, joining those that insult the government, and talking them down. This is so wrong.

If we really want a peaceful and godly society then we must pray for those in authority to discharge their duties with godly fear. Remember, the laws and decrees they make, are what govern the society, so we must ensure that those are not against the kingdom, by dedicating ourselves to such prayer. "I exhort first of all, that supplication and prayers be made." It's a 'first of all' thing. It's a priority. Quit insulting and cursing those in authority and start praying for them. You're blessed. -TCF
