BURDENS-A SENSE OF RESPONSIBILITY

Matthew 11:30

For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.”

Jesus made a call to all who are unsaved,"come to be all you who labour and are hereby laden and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light. (Matthew 11:28-30). Jesus said He has a 'yoke' for us, and a burden which we must carry. But glory to God, His yoke is easy and His burden is light.

One may ask, "I thought He gave us rest, why do we have to carry His burden?" The Life in Christ is not a life of irresponsibility. We are called to walk with God. That means we have a responsibility to fulfill, and that's what Jesus talked about. He was letting us know that we would still have a very important role to play in the process of walking with God.

But then, it's not going to be difficult at all. Many people don't like to say that the Christian life is easy and light, but they don't know better than Jesus. Easy does not mean irresponsibility. Easy means highly responsible but very highly helped by the Holy Spirit. Our responsiblity is to be conscious about doing the Word and following the impulse and promptings of the Holy Spirit.

"If you love Me, keep My commandment" (John 14:15), and the commandment is summarised in His love (John 15:10). Many times, the Holy Spirit will put impressions on our hearts. He will prompt us strongly in certain directions, or put certain compassions to our hearts. Those are calls to responsiblity, and many times, we begin handling them by express prayers until they are dissipated. Burden is a call to responsibility, and our duty is to fulfill the call. They are not difficult. We only need to follow. You're blessed. -TCF
