WHO IS A SERVANT?

John 13:16

Most assuredly, I say to you, a servant is not greater than his master; nor is he who is sent greater than he who sent him.

Jesus speaking to His disciples said a servant is not greater than his master, nor is he who is sent greater than he who sent him. Those words reveal a lot about the personality of a servant; and that will help you function as God's servant. First of all, a servant is one who recognises or acknowledges that he has a master. In essence, he understands that he has a boss he must obey, and render service to.

In the times of Jesus on earth, servants did not live their lives for themselves. They lived their lives wholly for their masters. Their masters literally own them, and determine what happens with them in every way. This means that a servant is one who is sold out entirely for the will and pleasure of the master.

Next, Jesus compares a servant to one who is sent, and compares the master to one who sends. This is very important because Jesus has told us, "just as my Father sent me, so send I you" (John 20:21). We must have that consciousness that we are sent by Jesus Christ to the world. And everyone who is sent, is sent on a mission, and with an agenda. Everyone sent, is sent with a purpose.

Our whole life must resonate around our purpose and agenda for being sent. We are sent as saviours to the world. We must render this service to the full because that's what our master wants. A servant is one who is sold out wholey for his master's will and is concerned only to fulfill the master's purpose for him. You are a servant of Jesus Christ to the world. Think about it and walk in that light. You're blessed. -TCF
