THE FOOD THAT IS ETERNAL
Do not labor for the food which perishes, but for the food which endures to everlasting life, which the Son of Man will give you, because God the Father has set His seal on Him.”
John 6:27 NKJV
After Jesus fed 5000, the people sought Him so much so that they followed Him across the sea towards Capernaum. They sought after Jesus yes, but Jesus recognised that their reason for seeking Him, was not because they believed in Him, but because they had eaten the loaves and wanted more.
You see it's possible to follow Jesus for the wrong reasons. He doesn't want us to follow Him because of our material expectations. He can very well meet those expectations, but He wants to give us something that is not limited to this world. That is the food that endures to everlasting life.
Even now, He has given us that food which endures to everlasting life. That food is His word. It is essentially God's priority for us. And He says we should rather labour/work for this food which endures to everlasting life. In the next verse, Jesus answered and said to the people, “This is the work of God, that you believe in Him whom He sent.” (John 6:29 NKJV).
So the work of God is to believe in Jesus who is the word of God sent to us. Jesus says, work for that which will not perish. And the work is to believe! We must give ourselves to the word, that we may believe and be filled with every word that proceeds from God.
Affirmation: The Word of God is God's priority for me. I choose to believe! I refuse to doubt the word of God and Jesus Christ to me. I choose to believe and be filled with the word. Glory to God in Jesus name. Amen.
