THE TRUTH OF CIRCUMCISION
When you came to Christ, you were “circumcised,” but not by a physical procedure. Christ performed a spiritual circumcision—the cutting away of your sinful nature.
Colossians 2:11 NLT
Isn't our theme verse so glorious? It describes what happened in reality by the Spirit when we came to Christ. We were actually circumcised. Physical circumcision was only a shadow, symbolic of the true things that Christ wanted to do in us.
Yes, before, Christ wanted to do it, but now He has done it! He did it ever since you became born again, He circumcised you! Our theme verse explains it. This circumcision was not a physical affair. It didn't happen by human hands. It was a real circumcision, but it wasn't physical. It was performed by Christ.
He cut off from you the sinful nature. That is the nature in which you were born in your human birth. That nature has been cut off from you. The nature that made you a sinner, bound and subject to sin. He really, truly cut it off.
What does this mean? It means you don't have it anymore! You have a new nature of righteousness. You're not trying to defeat sin. But to live above sin, you've got to believe that you have already defeated sin because Christ has done it in you. Meditate on this verse and similar verses, believing they're true, and declare them to yourself consistently. You'll have a beautiful walk of righteousness.
Affirmation: I agree with the truth, I don't have a sinful nature. It has been cut away from me, since my Lord Jesus Christ circumcised me. Now I live in righteousness, above the power of sin. I am free! This is the truth! Glory to God!
