Mercy Chinwo is a Nigerian singer-songwriter, actress, and comedian. She started singing at age 8 in her church children’s choir. Eventually, in 2012, she came to the spotlight after winning in the popular talent show ‘Nigerian Idols’.
Mercy is widely known for her hit single Excess Love (2018). The song earned her national and international recognition and sealed her status as one of the best vocalists in the Nigerian Gospel music ministry.
Mercy Nnenda Chinwo was born on September 5, 1990. She was born into the family of five in Port Harcourt, Rivers state. Mercy lost her father at a young age, and had to fend for herself and other siblings. As a result, she took her music ministry serious from the beginning. Chinwo started from the children’s choir at age 8. Subsequently, she moved into the adult choir and became the music director of her local church. She was also lending her voice to gospel music ministers like Sammie Okposo, Joe Praize, Buchi, Chris Morgan and Preye. Later on, she began to participate in musical competitions until she found Nigerian Idol. Eventually, she emerged winner in the season 2 of the Nigerian talent show, and came to limelight.
In 2015, she released her debut single Testimony (2015) and subsequently Igwe (2016). On February 20, 2018, Mercy released her debut studio album The Cross: My Gaze. The 16-track contemporary gospel songs was released by EeZee Conceptz under Dixtrit Media. It featured guest appearances from Shady B, Fiokee, Chris Morgan, and Olaitan Odoko. Since then, Mercy has continued to release soul-lifting worship songs. Mercy Chinwo made an acting debut in House of Gold. House of Gold is a Ghanaian Nigerian comedy film produced by Yvonne Nelson, and directed by Pascal Amanfo.
Mercy Chinwo is one of the artists signed to EeZee Concept. The label is owned and managed by Mr. Ezekiel (Eezee Tee). It is a Christian record label doing God’s business on earth with passion for a divine move for the end time.
Apart from Mercy Chinwo, Mr. Timothy also manage music ministers like Frank Edwards, Preye Odede, Hilda Dokubo, and others who are using their music as a dynamic tool for Christ. Chinwo’s major drive is passion; she had her eyes on the bigger picture, but started small. She knew exactly what she wanted and kept her eyes on the goal. If she has to wait, she waits because she believes that waiting is part of the process. At some point, she was rejected, but she saw it as a test of faith and time.
