THE PURPOSE OF PROPHECY

But he who prophesies speaks edification and exhortation and comfort to men. 1 Corinthians 14:3

Overtime, many people have come to despise prophecy, because what many call prophecy or give as prophecies do not really conform to what prophecies should be.For some who prophecy, they simply fortell negative events, for those who hear, not to the intent of warning them to guard against such events, but rather leaving them in fear.

Some others give prophecies that simply fortell condemnation against those who they prophecy about. All these are not prophecies as inspired by the Holy Spirit. Because the scripture accurately shows us what prophecies should achieve in the life of those who receive them. He who prophesies speaks edification, exhortation, and comfort to men.

Edification refers to strengtning from within.Prophecies should strengthen those who receive them, to function in faith, and not in panic. Exhortation talks about encouragement. Some people may be discouraged, downbeaten and may despair of continuing.

Prophecies should be a source of encouragement to people, to continue the race without giving up.And when men go through trials and tribulations, prophecies should be a source of Comfort for them, reminding them of God's faithfulness, presence and love. These are what prophecies inspired by the Holy Spirit should do. Prophecies are a blessing to those who receive them. You're blessed. TCF
