PRAYER; A CATALYST FOR DISCERNMENT

Now it came to pass in those days that He went out to the mountain to pray, and continued all night in prayer to God. And when it was day, He called His disciples to Himself; and from them He chose twelve whom He also named apostles: Luke 6:12-13

We learn a lot about ourselves by observing the life of Jesus. We see that Jesus went to the mountain to pray, and continued all night in prayer to God. In the morning, He called His disciples, and from them selected twelve whom He also named apostles. This was a major decision point in the life and ministry of Jesus.

So why did He have to pray all night like that before making His selection? Because in the place of prayer, spiritual sensitivity (discernment) is sharpened above physical or mere mental sensitivity. When you spend time in prayer like this, it becomes easy to pick out what the Holy Spirit's witness is on a matter, because your spiritual senses would have been sharpened to be in sync with Him.

This is crucial to the life of every believer, who really wants to live in the will of God. We must be given to Prayer,  and not just Prayer but continual focused and earnest prayer. Our mind is focused to pick out what the Holy Spirit is saying in the place of prayer.

Without adequate prayer (of course with fasting) it will be difficult to be highly sensitive to the Spirit and this may lead to very wrong discernment. A man of continual prayer who is pure at heart, yielded to the Spirit and genuinely loves God will hardly decide amiss. Give yourself To Prayer and to the ministry of the Word. You are blessed. TCF
