But one thing is needed, and Mary has chosen that good part, which will not be taken away from her.” Luke 10:42
There is a possibility of getting so engrossed with activities and service, that a person now loses track of the person of Jesus. Just like the church in Ephesus in the book of Revelation (Revelation 2:1 –7). They had a very beautiful description. An almost perfect one.
They didn’t tolerate sin, they worked so hard for Christ, they endured hardship for His name sake and even laboured dearly for Him. But then in all these beautiful reports, we see something striking in verse 4. Just one line after the numerous Praise. "You have forgotten your first love."
What a statement. Going back to observe their description, you would see that all they had were things they had done for Christ, and not things they had done with Christ. They were so engrossed with the work, that they forgot their personal relationship with the person of Christ.
Too much service but they had forgotten their first love. It’s not difficult to be in these shoes. This is not to say that service is bad, but nothing is more important than Him personally. What you do with Him is more important than what you do for Him. One thing is needed, and Mary has chosen the good part which will not be taken from her. Choose that good part too, put Him first even above the work. You are blessed. TCF
