THE CUNNINGNESS OF DECEPTION
But there were also false prophets among the people, even as there will be false teachers among you, who will secretly bring in destructive heresies, even denying the Lord who bought them, and bring on themselves swift destruction. 2 Peter 2:1
Many times people expect that the false prophets and teachers the scriptures warn us about who will deny the Lord will do so openly and clearly. But this is not so. We must take note of the cunningness and secretive nature through which these false teachers and false prophets will bring heresies into the body of Christ. How they will deny the Lord (Jesus Christ) who bought them.
Expecting an open denial of Christ would be misleading, because the scripture clearly states that they will do so secretly and cleverly. Remember the aim is to deceive those who will be gulliblel enough. So don’t expect them to come out openly and to say, we deny that Jesus is Lord, or that’s the coming of Jesus is not true, no!
They most probably will not! They will secretly and carefully, through their teachings, and actions, neglect the effects of the works of Christ Jesus on account of his death and resurrection. Their teachings, processes and manner of life will ignore or set aside the beautiful realities of the risen Christ to us.
They will not take into account the works of Christ. Therefore they will deny Christ through those ways. Most of them will even seem so religious and pious. Others may seem worldly. But by their fruits you shall know them. Testing all spirits, discerning by the Spirit and the word, we will spot them. We must watch out for them the lest we be deceived. Be wise. TCF
