OBEDIENCE TO PARENTS
Colossians 3:20
Children, obey your parents in all things, for this is well pleasing to the Lord.
It's important to understand that just as you have an obligation by love, to obey your heavenly Father, you have also an obligation to obey your earthly parents whom you see. Because if you can't obey your parents whom you see, how then can you obey God whom you do not see physically.
Our obedience to parents without complaints is highly valued by God. It's so esteemed to the extent that even when it does not please us, we should still obey them. The only time we are not bound to obey parents is if their instructions to us means disobedience to God's word.
Under those circumstances, we should not displease God to please man. But besides those, we should learn and train ourselves to highly value and esteem the words of our parents, because God respects their words over us. They are the first authority placed over us by God Himself.
This means obedience to them is obedience to God, the same way disobedience to them, is disobedience to God. Obey your parents in the Lord no matter how old, how grown, or how independent you are. To disobey them is to dishonour them. To dishonour them is to dishonour God. Be wise. You're blessed. -TCF
