DAILY DEVOTIONAL: DON'T LEAVE YOUR FIRST WORKS

DONT LEAVE YOUR FIRST WORKS

Revelation 2:5

Remember therefore from where you have fallen; repent and do the first works, or else I will come to you quickly and remove your lampstand from its place—unless you repent.

Like we said yesterday, your first love is the place of understanding the primary purpose why you are called in Christ. The general application of this is that we are all called as soul winners, to bring men into Christ. But today, we will look into the personal implication of 'your first love'.

Christ told the Ephesian church, "remember from where you've fallen, repent and do the first works..." This reveals that though the church was still in Christ, and even doing business for Christ, they had fallen from a place of understanding what really mattered to God from them.

This was going to cost them a lot if they didn't repent. He wanted them to return to and remain in their primary purpose. We all have our properties in Christ, individually and cooperately. And even though we are still in faith, if we lose that sense of our primary purpose, for which we are called in Christ, He wouldn't be happy at all, and such could have dire consequences.

One who is called as a teacher must remain in his place of primary assignment, because that's where the Spirit placed him. The missionary must have that sense of urgency to go far and wide just for souls alone. We must know and understand our primary purpose and remain in them, so as to glorify Christ. If you leave your place, and leave the first works of your calling, then you are in error. Return to your first love and do your first works. That's the only way to truly glorify the Lord. Remain blessed. -TCF
