LIVING IN THE NAME OF JESUS

Colossians 3:17 Philippians 2:10-11

We see that in Colossians 3:17, we are to do everything we do, whether our speech or actions, we are to do all in the name of Jesus. But what does it really mean to do something in the name of Jesus? From the scripture above, we see that everything we do is a totality of our lives here on earth, no exception. So what the Word was saying in essence is that we should live our lives in the name of Jesus. We should function in the name of Jesus. It's not limited to prayers only or cutting of birthday cakes, which some people do "in the name of Jesus". It covers everything. Down to our thoughts, intentions, motives, emotions, knowledge, feelings, words, actions, they should all function in the name of Jesus. But what does it really mean to do, function or live in the name of Jesus.

This example should help us understand. If a governor was invited for a ceremony, and wouldn't come physically, he sends his representative. The representative is someone that knows the governor very well, and has the exact authority that the governor would have if he was in that ceremony himself. This representative would only do what the governor would do, if he were there himself, because he knows the governor very well. Anything the representative does or says, has the same power and effect and is respected as though it was the governor himself. The people in the ceremony give the representative the same respect and obedience they would give to the governor himself. Because he was sent by the governor himself, he came in the name of the governor. We'll continue from here tomorrow. Remain on the Word of God in mediation and prayers. You're blessed.
