Daily devotional: can a Christian be bound by demons of addictions 1

Old things/New things

2 Corinthians 5:17

It was expediently laid upon us, to do this teaching before continuing with the whole armour of God. A Christian is a man in Christ. Born of God. You have been recreated and declared to righteous by God, and as such you are perfectly fit to live righteously. Also you are expected to live righteously because that's who God recreates you to be. It's important to note that you can't lose these things so long as you are in Christ (I.e so long as you don't denounce Jesus as Lord). Now the Word of God (which is always true) makes us understand that if any man be in Christ, He is a new creature. Old things have past away, and all things have become new (2corinth. 5:17). To accurately understand this verse, we will need to understand what "old things" are. Old things are any and everything that pertains to a life in darkness. I.e to an unsaved being. Please understand this. Old things are not just things that happened in your past life, no! Old things are anything and everything that pertains to a life subject to Satan. Whether you experienced them before or not, they are old things.

Some of them include sin; fear, pressure, frustration, worry, curses, demonic possession/oppression, addiction, depression, sickness etc. All these, and anymore you can think of are "old things", Whether you have experienced them before or not. Why are they called old things? Because they are things that pertain to the old you. The old (former) man you used to be. So he's not just merely talking about your past experiences, but he is saying that, if any man be in Christ, then all these things associated with the old, sinful man are passed away, and all the things that pertain to you now are things of Christ. This foundation is important for the teaching tomorrow. Be blessed.
