Love, Light and Life

... more than a devotional

FRIDAY 11TH August, 2023

But a hireling, he who is not the shepherd, one who does not own the sheep, sees the wolf coming and leaves the sheep and flees; and the wolf catches the sheep and scatters them.

John 10:12 NKJV

A hireling is a person who works mainly for material gain, or monetary reward. This is someone who doesn't really have a passion for the work, but only cares what financial or material rewards will come out of it. The hireling spirit thus, is that spirit which promotes the hireling character among people.

We who are in Christ, in various capacities are actually called to be shepherds of God's sheep, as He has given grace to us. In the kingdom, the driving force for a shepherd must be passion for the sheep and for the Lord of the sheep.

This is what will make you give yourself to prayers and fasting for the sheep. This is what will make you care and have compassion for the sheep. Jesus does not expect us to tend the sheep for the sake of martial gain. Because this will open our ministry up to corruption by the offers of this world.

Refuse to be controlled by mammon and greed. When doing the lord's work, don't think of what material riches, fame or respect you'll get out of it. Let your motivation and joy be to see God's people in your care grow. Only then can you do the Lord's work most effectively.

Affirmation: In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, I am filled with love for people. For God's people, and for sinners alike. I don't do the work of ministry for the sake of money, or respect, or fame. I preach the gospel and win souls, for the sake of the souls themselves and the spread of the kingdom of my God. Thank you Father in Jesus name. Amen.
