THE GROWTH MILK
as newborn babes, desire the pure milk of the word, that you may grow thereby,
I Peter 2:2 NKJV
Remember yesterday we talked about being saved, and why we use the words "to be born again" to describe it? Yes. We do so because that's exactly what it means. When a person is saved, it means a new child has been born into Christ. That's why he's a new creation (2 Corinthians 5:17).
Now this new child, could be an adult in the natural world, or a teenager, or a child, or even an old man or woman. Whatever the case may be, in the spiritual realm, the one who just got saved is a spiritual infant, and therefore needs to be cared for, with spiritual nourishment, just as a natural baby would be cared for.
This is why our theme verse says, desire the pure milk of the word, that you may grow thereby. This is the spiritual nourishment, necessary for spiritual growth. Don't assume you know everything about your new life in Christ. No.
There's actually so much to learn. There's so much transformation that needs to happen within you. There's so much mastery which you need to attain. And these things will not just come automatically. They come as you grow. Therefore commit yourself to growth through the word of God, that you may come to the fullness of all God has for you.
Prayer: Dear Father, I understand that I don't know it all myself, and I need to grow spiritually. Help me to remain desirous for your word, that by the word, I'll be built up into the person you want me to be, in Jesus name. Amen.
