CONSCIOUS REPRESENTATIVES
And whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him.
Colossians 3:17 NKJV
Our theme verse let's us know that we ought to live our lives in the name of the Lord Jesus. But what does it mean to live our lives in His name? Does it mean to mention the name of Jesus before doing anything? No. That's not what it means.
The NLT rendering of our theme verse puts it this way, And whatever you do or say, do it as a representative of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks through him to God the Father. Colossians 3:17 NLT. You see, it speaks of being conscious of your representation. You are a representative of Christ Jesus, and you've got to be conscious of it.
Many people aren't conscious that they are representatives of Christ. So they end up living anyhow. Jesus said, just as the Father sent me, so I send you! (John 20:21). That means as He was a representative of the Father, so we are His representatives. We have His full commission to function in His place, with His authority. And He expects us to do it.
You cannot keep yourself in the consciousness of the fact that you're Jesus' representative here on earth. It takes the Holy Spirit to keep you in remembrance (John 14:26). Therefore we must yield to Him daily, because we ought to function as representatives of Christ Jesus our Lord.
Prayer: Blessed Father, I thank you for your divine selection upon my life, to be your child, your temple, your dwelling place here on earth. By your grace and your Spirit at work in me, I'll live as a representative of Christ Jesus everyday. In Jesus mighty name I pray, Amen.
