Love, Light and Life

... more than a devotional

Likewise the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. Romans 8:26 (NKJV)

When apostle Paul by the inspiration of the Holy Spirit wrote about the Holy Spirit helping our weaknesses, by making intercessions for us with groanings that cannot be uttered, it's important to understand that He wasn't just talking about speaking in tongues.

Many people for a long time have thought this is same as speaking in tongues, but no, it's different. The scripture says that when we speak in tongues, the Holy Spirit grants us utterance to speak. So we're actually uttering words, words of the Spirit.

But in the kind of prayer described above, we don't have the utterance or vocabulary to capture what needs to be prayed for. The Holy Spirit is not granting us utterance in this case. He's actually praying through us, and the prayer comes out as groanings.

If you've experienced this, you'll understand that at that point of groaning, it wasn't just you praying in tongues. It was the Spirit of prayer, praying through you as a vessel. This is deep and wonderful experience. Because the one who prayers through us, knows exactly what to pray for. Hallelujah!!!

Prayer: Dear Holy Spirit, I understand that you're the Spirit of prayer, and you help me pray, even when I don't really know what or how to pray. I thank you Lord for the kindness and grace towards me. I love you. In Jesus name. Amen
