OBEDIENCE

 OBEDIENCE

Biblical obedience means to hear God’s word and act accordingly. Obedience to God means to hear, trust, submit and surrender to God and his word.

I was studying my Bible and I was led to the book of Ezekiel 24: 15-17 “The word of the Lord came to me; Son of man, with one blow I am about to take away from you the delight of your eyes, yet do not lament or weep or shed any tears.. groan quietly, do not mourn for the dead. Keep your turban fastened and your sandals on your feet; do not cover the lower part of your face or eat the customary food of mourners.”

As I was reading, I was saying in my heart that this one is hard oh, how will Ezekiel do this one? The love of his life will be taken away by death and he isn’t even allowed to mourn her.. and God even told him things he is meant to do on top his heartbreak oh😂

Then vs 18 says “So I( Ezekiel) spoke to the people in the morning and in the evening my wife died. The next morning I did as I had been commanded.” Wonderful!!!

If you study the book of Ezekiel, from the moment he was called to be a prophet by God.. in my opinion his tasks were tough.. the things  he was commanded to do were never easy. He was always used as a sign for the people of Israel to know that there Is God ( read the book of Ezekiel you’d understand better). Yet no matter how hard his tasks were or how Ezekiel might have been feeling (cause he’s human) he always did what God commanded. Heobeyed!!  He heard and listened to God, he submitted his own will for the will of God’s, he trusted God and he surrendered everything about himself to God and to God’s word!! Ezekiel put aside his emotions or his thoughts and still obeyed everything God said.

In our world today, it is one thing to hear God’s voice and then a totally different thing to listen and obey his word. Sometimes we hear from God  (God’s always speaking) and he tells us what we are meant to do. But then we make our own will higher than the will of God, and it shouldn’t be so.

For example.. we hear in our hearts that this is the time to read our Bibles, but then we remember that we’re tired, we have errands, we have school work to do, we haven’t slept then we push away that quiet voice that told us to read our bible, and we do whatever pleases us.

Galatians 5:17 “For the desires of the flesh desires what is against the spirit and the desires of the spirit are against the flesh, they are in conflict with each other, so that you do not do wha you want”

The Holy Spirit gives you the ability to defeat the desires of your flesh, the desire to disobey God’s word. Ezekiel was a human being like you and I, yet when the love of his life was taken away from him and he was told not to mourn her, he obeyed. How? With the help of the Holy Spirit. Without the Spirit, he would have given into his desires to cry and ask God questions as to how God could take away the apple of his eyes leading him to disobey his creator.

We need to learn how to listen to God’s voice and obey his word, cause his word saves lives. Like the popular saying ‘obedience is better than sacrifice.’  You may never know why your spirit is leading you to pray at a particular moment until you do it.. you may never know why your spirit is telling you not to take that road you plan on using to go to work or school until you do it. Because  when you obey God’s voice and you avoid that road, you might have avoided an accident that would have taken your life.. when you pray that very moment your spirit tells you to pray, you might have won a battle in prayer or saved someone else’s life in prayer.

The bottom line is a lot of us disobey God’s voice because we think that his word coming at that particular time or point is inconvenient with our schedule and sometimes it’s just plain ignorance and lack of understanding🤷🏻‍♀️. But know this, God’s word saves lives.

So whenever you are moved to open your bible, God wants to drop a word that may help you in the trying days you are about to face. When you are led by the spirit to help a brother or sister in need, don’t become deaf to that quiet voice in your heart. Obey!!

So today when you hear his voice... don’t harden your hearts.

I pray God pours in us his precious Spirit to help us listen, trust, submit and surrender our will to him. Amen.

God bless you.
