1 Peter 2:24

who Himself bore our sins in His own body on the tree, that we, having died to sins, might live for righteousness—by whose stripes you were healed.

It is highly important that as believers in Christ Jesus, we understand the depth of the work of Christ on the cross and the effects on us who are new creations in him. One of such is the reality of being dead to sin, by virtue of a baptism into his death, and birthing into his resurrection.

Too many Christians believe that having come to Christ Jesus, they now need to die to sin, in order to live in newness of life. And so they spend so much time and energy, trying to ‘die’. While the motive is right, the understanding is very wrong as this is not what the Scriptures teach. In Christ, we are not trying to die to sin, because in Christ, we are dead to sin.

He personally bore our sins on the cross, so that we being dead to sin, might live to righteousness. See that? We’ve being dead to sin; not we trying to die, or we dying to sin. Did you not read that you died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God? Collusion 3:3. Glory to God for the word is true and cannot contradict itself. You can’t be dead and still be seeking a death to sin. You already got it in Christ.

No amount of prayer and fasting could get you dead to say. Only the death of Christ could and he did! What then must you do? Reckon yourself to be dead indeed to sin, but alive to God In Christ Jesus our Lord! (Romans 6:11). That is the thing. Consider yourself dead, to sin, count yourself dead to sin. See yourself as being dead to sin. See yourself through the lens of the word. This is the why the word was given, so that you can see the true you. Only then can you really walk in the newness of life. You’re blessed. TCF
