Topic: Backsliding; dangerous.
For Reading And Meditation: 2nd Peter 2:19-22
*Thought* : The devil which a man escape from yesterday will become more determine to destroy the man today if he eventually return to him.
*Memorise:* Proverbs 26:11 As a dog returneth to his vomit, so a fool returneth to his folly.
Backsliding is a very retrogressive act.
Putting ones faith into action through patience are the protectors against this enemy of progress.
The advent of Corona Virus disease 2019 (Covid 19) has made many to err from the Faith. Many even went as far as accusing God of keeping silent and watching his children partake in the suffering. What many fail to understand is that being a Christian does not separate you from partaking or experiencing some happenings on earth while you live. What separate you from the world as a Christian is when you are able to overcome all temptations, trials and tribulations that may be coming from the pit of hell.
He who fall into backsliding is called Backslider.
A Backslider is someone who have once tasted the living water before.
A Backslider is someone who feel no more need to continue in his/her Faith.
Taking a close look at a verse in our text for today, you will discover that backsliding is just like returning into a bondage of which one has overcome initially. 2nd Peter 2:19.
Just like the story of the demon which is cast out but return later with more powerful demons so also are the bondages of he who backslide.
As a believer we must surround ourselves with people of Strong Faith that will be able to encourage one when difficulties that can link someone to past problems, Sins and Bondages are arising.
2 Corinthians 5:17 Says" Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new".
The bible text above tells us that as soon as we genuinely declare Lord Jesus as our Savior we are to immediately break every chain linking to our old nature.
The main reason why many are still fighting hard to overcome that sexual perversion, addictions and other old sinful acts is because they still allow such things to hang around them. They didn't destroy the source and the root of the problems. Hence when the devil got the slightest chance to strike he takes the heart of such men to the more reason why they shouldn't have left their old lifestyle.
The only sure and trusted way to be completely free from the bondages of past sins or ones old nature is to disconnect and do away with anything that will remind you about them.
Many will still find it difficult to forget that woman who lure them into committing adultery with them because they have refuse to burn the bridges. Probably if you check out for the number of the person on their phone it will still be there. It is so dangerous because such reminders will connect your heart into picturing your past sins in your heart and gradually you are stepping backwards into your old domain.
There is always a chance to retrace back your steps. If there is anyway you have seen yourself falling back into the odious act, not too worry Jesus is calling upon you today.
It is only a fool that will count the silent of God as slackness. He is keeping silent so that you can retrace back your steps.
Completely do away with anything including people that may link you to that old nature today. Receive the power of Holy Ghost to be able to do this. Hallelujah!
