DON'T TORMENT YOURSELF

2 Peter 2:8

(For that righteous man dwelling among them, in seeing and hearing, vexed his righteous soul from day to day with their unlawful deeds;)

As sons of God, it's important to understand that we have a huge responsibility to play in the course of the running of our lives. The theme verse talks about Lot, who dwelt in the land of Sodom. Now though Lot himself was righteous, the company he had chosen to dwell with were a very unrighteous and sinful people.

Their sins, wrongs and works of unrighteousness were a torment and frustration to Lot because he was righteous at heart. By choosing to dwell among the sodomites, and have company with them, Lot tormented his own soul daily because he was unavoidably subject to witness the evil practices of the sodomites.

Many Christians are that way today. Lovers of God, seeking to do good, but allowing themselves to have company of numerous sinners. You see, the result of such life is very simple. Such a person will be frustrated in His or her walk with God because everywhere, the sinfulness of others will be a torment to them. It is highly unwise to subject yourself to such a life.

Because even if you don't get consumed by their numerous sins, your growth in God will be highly retarded and your walk with God will be frustrating. Refuse to be unhealthily surrounded with the wrong company. Consciously protect your inner space, otherwise you may be sorry you didn't. Don't torment yourself with the sins of others, so you can enjoy the fullness of fellowship with God. Remain in the Word and in prayers. You're blessed. -TCF
