THE SWORD OF THE SPIRIT

Ephesians 6:17

And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:

Knowing that our war is not against flesh and blood, but against spiritual forces of darkness and powers of the world and wickedness, we must be armed and prepared for battle in accordance with the kind of battle we fight. The spiritual armour for our spiritual battle. We've spent time going through the various armour as described by our Apostle Paul in Ephesians 6, and so far, most of them seem to serve defensive purposes.

This should tell you that when you get born again, God is more interested in your total spiritual health and well being, than He is interested in engaging you as an assault on darkness. This simply means that God would never engage a son in spiritual battle to the detriment of the son. He loves you too dearly to do that. So He sends you upfront because He believes and knows that you are ready and qualified. And you'd need to believe and know that too.

Now, the seemingly only offensive weapon in our armour which is described as the sword of the Spirit is the Word of God. Now the Word we speak of here is not just any word, but the spoken (uttered) Word of God. The Rhema of God. This is very informative. In our discussions on the faith shield, we emphasised the importance of speaking what you believe, confessions, declarations, affirmations etc. Now we see something very similar, but in a different light.

With respect to the sword of the Spirit, your declarations and proclamations are not in the defensive (to build you up) but are in the offensive (to tear darkness down)! When you use the Word of God as a sword, you are not just fixing things in your own life, you are actually tearing down and destroying things the devil has fixed in other people's lives or in the society. That's real spiritual assault! This is an interesting journey. Join us as we continue next week.

Say this with me: "I tear down darkness, with the Word of God I speak. I am light, I shine!" You're blessed -TCF
