1Thessalonians 5:23 (1 Corinthians 5:17, Romans 12:2 Philippians 3:21)

Man is a tripartite being. You are made up of your spirit, your soul, and your body. The spirit is the domain which accommodates the Spirit of God I.e. God's divine nature (for the saved man) or the flesh I.e. the Godless and sinful nature (for the unsaved man). The soul is the domain which comprises of your will, your mind, your emotions, thoughts, imaginations, etc. The body is the physical part of you, by which you can relate to the physical world.

On account of the fall (Genesis 3), every man (except Jesus Christ) is formed in his natural mother with the flesh resident in his spirit man. From birth, the mind spontaneously learns and is shaped by things around (which mostly reflect the flesh) and by the sinful nature of the unsaved spirit. Therefore the unsaved man naturally grows with a carnal mind. The thoughts, emotions, imaginations etc, are products of how the mind is shaped, and so they function in carnality (in flesh) as well. The body yields to what the soul desires, and so the body yields to carnality and fleshy things. This is the nature of the unsaved man.

But at salvation, something glorious happened. The sinful spirit of man was crucified with Christ, and a new Spirit was put into man. This new spirit is the new you. The new spirit is united with the Spirit of God, and is naturally Godly, holy and pure, unlike the old you. This new Spirit is the life of Christ in you ( Galatians 2:20). This is the recreation of man. The new birth. Now the soul I.e the mind, thoughts, and all the soul faculties are not immediately aware of all that has happened to you, though your spirit is aware. But we will continue tomorrow. Remain on the word of God. Accept Jesus into your life if you haven't. Believe He's the Son of God that was crucified and resurrected for you. And confess Him as Lord of your life with your mouth. You're blessed.
